Early morning
Tokyo on a Saturday morning, six thirty. It is clearly not the rush hour when we drive to Odaiba. Temple University will present her self with a booth on the Design Festa. It was inevitable that a architecture student should design the booth. Because of the exams right after the weekend zest for the job was slack, but my chance to finally do some knocking together the bigger. It was a case of design and build though so it became a matter of too early rising on that Saturday morning.
Tony (by the van) is a contractor and the president of the 'student government'. Max (foreground) is an architecture student from Philadelphia. He makes beautiful things that can not always become buildings. I think he could become an artist and a very good one. The three of us will build the booth.
Budget was limited so we used scaffolding and crates for the basic structure.
Building up. It appeared we were in the corner where the ceiling is much lower than in the other parts of the enormous hall.
Right when we intended to have a booth with much height. It proved practical to have the architect in the building team. No moaning needed.
Two white cloths will serve as projection screen. The two bands of brown craft paper keep out the light of the lamps and make a nice background.
We finish right in time when at ten thirty the crew with the computers arrives. It was very good thinking of Tony to start really early.
The whole team together. The lower screen is half open so you can see a second projection on the higher screen. We had two beamers plus two most ordinary hand miroors from the 100 Yen shop. The projections showed all kinds of work by students in a continuous slideshow.
Franklly speaking I think Temple University did not fit in this event too well. Or more hands-on should happen. Maybe they will participate in an other event next year. In the posting below you can see what more was present at the Design Festa.
