Tea ceremony

On sunday we visit a tea ceremony with Loes and Carla. In Happo-en, a park around the corner.

Tea ceremony is performed in a tea hut. One of the most important historic buildings in Japan is a tea hut of approximately five square meter. The traditional architecture style is called tea style.

Tea ceremony is a special happening. Performance requires years of practising and is a remarkable hobby. This lady does tea ceremony for twenty years now. Every move is a little miracle.

The tea is bitter and smooth. It is served with a delicious sweet to express the taste of the tea even better.

We spoke a mix of Japanese and English.

The tokonoma is the most important part of the room. The kaligraphy and ikebana contribute to the atmosphere and connect to the season and the day of today.

Sitting on folded legs is not easy. Longer than ten minutes is a real top performance. Moving askew may give some relief. Good new for the taller people: it is easier for us as we are folded on 'normal' chairs also. Our calf muscles are longer as a result. Ladies on high heels are no match. Beauty is painful :-)

Important in a nice house is a the view. By means of shoji (rice paper sliding doors) the view is cropped. Thus you watch a sort of living painting. In bad eather firmer panels are installed.
